A Long Time Ago Into The Future was written for Mary Kenedi in 1986. The work was premiered by Dr. Elaine Keillor at Carleton University, Ottawa, in 1988 for the CBC. Mary Gardiner revised the work in 1997 for Mary Kenedi for a performance at Roy Thomson Hall as part of the Made in Canada Music Festival. A Long Time Ago Into The Future (sic) is a North American native saying that confirms belief in the continuity of all things. The work is based on the Dene Dogrib Prayer Song, recorded by Dr. Keillor duing field work research in Rae-Edzo, North West Territories.

Pianist Mary Kenedi made an impressive New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall in April 1983 in a programme of works by Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály. A specialist in Hungarian music, Ms. Kenedi distinguished herself during Bartók’s centenary year in 1981 with performances for the celebration “Bartók 100” in Toronto, at the National Gallery in Ottawa and for CBC’s Morningside.

Ms. Kenedi has recordings issued on the CENTREDISCS and ECHIQUIER labels. This is her first release for FURIANT RECORDS.

“…entertaining and thought-provoking…The pieces have distinctive characteristics, surprises, different styles, adventurous modulations, and romantic moments that are not often associated with modern music.”
