In 2001, while attending the Faculty of Music of Université d'Ottawa, Pascale Lafrance, a young clarinetist, was looking for an original work for clarinet solo, composed by a Canadian author, that she could use for a course in musical analysis. Obligingly, I accepted the challenge and came up with "Piscoleries". It so happened that "Piscoleries" became highly popular amongst the classmates of Madame Lafrance for they thoroughly dissected it from all possible angles. And it was more so since it was the only piece of work specifically composed for Madam Lafrance. Eventually in September 2005, Pascale Lafrance brought along "Piscoleries" on the program of her final concert for her master's degree. So a full circle of events come to a close.
