Suzanne Hebert-Tremblay Calme, étale, la mer berce un grand soleil fauve, 1995 Commissioned by: National Arts Centre, for its 20th-century Orchestral Workshop “Imagine a hot, sunny day, a real scorcher; in the forest, one perceives the breathing of wild animals. Then the sun sets, the bats wake up, the thrushes are heard with their melancholy warbling, the nocturnal world comes to life, and later, the barred owl sends its mysterious call into the night. “Inspired mainly by the sounds of nature, jazz music, and the music of Johann Strauss (Die Fledermaus!).”
