The Suite, opus 27, was composed in 1994 and first performed on July 29, 2001 at the Orford Art Centre by the violin students of Anne Robert, accompanied by pianist Sandra Murray. This evocative suite pays tribute to a series of events that play an important role in Québec culture: the arts festivals. The many different festivals, mostly held during the summer, bring a breath of fresh air into the province and offer many enriching opportunities to meet festival-goers from around the world. Each festival is different, with its own theme and special atmosphere, and this is what I attempted to capture in the Suite. Six festivals are represented, buy many others events remain to be "portrayed" in music and could easily result in other similar works. The individual movements of the Suite can be performed either together or separately. Rachel Laurin.
