"Introduction and Allegro" is a short work for clarinet and bassoon that I wrote as an undergraduate student at Queen’s University in 1975. My good friend Judy Bourne and I premiered it as part of the Composer Showcase concerts presented twice a year at that time. It has been performed a number of times since then most recently here in Kingston. While there are serial techniques present the work does not strictly adhere to those principals. The closing section of the work features the Fibonacci Number Series in the construction of the rhythmic dialogue. Its application to musical composition was of particular interest for me at the time of this work’s composition.
Canadian Music Centre has been supporting, preserving and celebrating the works of Canadian composers since 1959. As proud and passionate advocates, we offer innovative resources for discovering, exploring, listening to and playing Canadian music online and in five regional hubs.
