The title of this piece is drawn from an old Buddhist parable about a Ferryman who diligently practices recitation of a mantra, one day while transporting a monk across the river the monk admonished him for incorrect pronunciation of the mantra. After returning to the monastery the monk complained to his lama about the ignorant boatman and his incorrect pronunciation to which the lama replied that the boatman was so sincere and earnest in his practice that he had actively engaged the mantra and had grown substantially in awareness, unlike the angry monk before him.
The piece is in continuous 4 parts (like the mantra) and concludes with a dedication.
