A Garden of Transplants was taken from the Chinese portion of the work for Clarinet and Soundscape called Transplants which spoke of the difficulties of immigrants, who might also be thought of as "transplants," moving from one country to another. In the original there was dialogue, both on the soundscape and live from the performer. I have replaced much of the soundscape with piano although I wanted to keep some of the percussive effects, now played with the left hand by the pianist. One might think of each section as a different flower, growing and thriving in a Garden of Transplants.
