Ames Asbell, viola; Karla Hamelin, cello
Written for Ames Asbell (viola) and Karla Hamelin (cello) Ripples is a celebration of women. It specifically explores our connections and the beautiful and life-giving waterways around which we live and thrive. Karla and I met at the University of Manitoba as fellow cello students with the same teacher. She was in her last year and I in my first. She now teaches at Texas State University with Ames Asbell. Karla and Ames enjoy working and performing together and decided to put together a recording and performance project consisting of new and old works written by women composers. I was honoured to be asked to write a piece for them and have thoroughly enjoyed working on this project with them.
