This song cycle was composed as part of a collaboration between writer Lindsay Mason and visual artist Timothy Goertzen. Mason penned the text which was to be used in the cycle, five poems in total, and Goertzen produced five paintings to accompany each of the poems. The cycle is a dispassionate and frequently austere observation on solitude and stasis; the poem’s winter imagery mirrors the emotional qualities of the writer, a type of suspended living as nature sleeps silently under the banks of snow.
