"Rìghle" is an exploration of musical material influenced by the reels and airs of Cape Breton and Scotland. Reels are usually performed in sets that move from slower paced music such as airs or strathspeys to the featured reel or reels of a set. In a similar manner this work opens with a slow introduction of the main melodic material that is then presented in a more traditional manner using key changes and contrasting musical ideas to further develop the music. The work concludes in a chorale style statement of the main theme that is itself concluded by a musical flourish featuring the upper winds. The title, Rìghle, is presented here in modern Scottish Gaelic but is pronounced in a similar manner as the English spelling of the word.
