“Processions” was composed in the spring of 2018. I was drawn to the range and textures afforded by two pairs of hands playing on one keyboard. The title came to mind as the piece became a series of successive movements not unlike a parade. Further to the title, I left the listener to imagine what was being paraded and whether the mind’s eye was viewing this by remaining stationary or by sauntering up and down the route. Parades, however are not usually in ¾ time and don’t surprise one with unexpected musical shifts or an abrupt ending. These give the piece a somewhat quirky character meant to add to the enjoyment of the performers and hopefully the audience.
