The 'Green, White and Gold March' is a traditional British style march that uses for its construction the melodic materials found in the two school songs of King City Secondary School. KCSS is a high school located in King City Ontario, and by coincidence, my Alma Mater. The A section uses "Green, White and Gold' (N.J. Ollynyk), the original school song written when the school opened in 1961, and the B section uses the more recent (1968) school song, 'King City' (Donald Caple). The second song was written after the school’s name was changed from Composite School to Secondary School. With the return of the A section in a new key, the march then concludes with a reference to the introduction with added percussion flourishes. The words of both songs reflect on the importance of one’s Alma Mater and its traditions, but both urge us to always look ahead confidently to the future. One should never forget the colours of 'Green, White and Gold!'
