In Sonorous Falling Tones
is a chamber concerto for flute and bass flute. The titles reveal certain underlying processes within the music. Movement one, revolves around several modes, subtly shifting from one to the next while material seemingly moves in circles. Movement two, In Sonorous Falling Tones, is slower and utilizes the bass flute. While the tones don’t always descend, the intention is that a feeling of falling will be evoked. The last movement, In Tempest, is tumultuous and fast: the flutist sings and plays at the same time creating a thick sound.
