Echoes of Ft. San was commissioned in 1987 by the Saskatchewan Arts Board to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Ft. San Summer School of the Arts in Ft. Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan. The school had “camps” for band, orchestra, jazz, ballet, writers, bag pipers, Ukrainian dancers, and others. When I wrote the piece, I intended it to be programmatic including scenes from the summers we spent there.
