Tawnie Olson's setting of the first three verses of Psalm 98 does not focus on projecting each individual word of the text as a separate entity; rather, beginning with the word chantez ("sing"), she establishes a backdrop of short, repeating ostinato patterns and slow-moving chords, against which the rest of the text is declaimed with escalating intensity. At "He has revealed his salvation" and "All the ends of the earth," these repeating patterns briefly give way to a clear, declamatory style, but the ostinato soon returns and ultimately concludes the piece as it began, on the words "sing a new song." Thus, all the varying manifestations of God's goodness described in the psalm are brought together in Olson's setting into a single, unified song of praise. - Paul Berry Recorded by Canadian Chamber Choir "In Good Company" Manitoba Film and Music
