1970-1972, Nederduits Gereformeerde Kerk, Universitas, Bloemfontein, South Africa Jacobus Kloppers, Organist
These three Psalm Chorale Preludes were written in Bloemfontein, South Africa, between 1970 and 1972 for use in the Dutch Reformed Church Universitas. They were early attempts at composition and inspired by Bach’s Orgelbüchlein in terms of structure and tonal devices. Except for Psalm 25, which was published in the now discontinued organ publication series Liturgiese Orrelmusiek (Sinodale Eredienskommissie, Nederduirs Gereformeerde Kerk in die Oranje Vrystaat) they remained in manuscript until were they digitally transcribed by Dr. Gerrit Jordaan for the new series SAKOV EREDIENSMUSIEK (2010-2012). They are made available here in digital form: - Psalm 66 (SAKOV 30 Feesbundel, 2010, #8); Canon with imitative motifs in the inner voices - Psalm 25 (Liturgiese Orrelmusiek, Vol. 4 #17): Canon. It is recommended for organs which do not reach C4 , to play the right hand on the Swell with a 4’ Flute an octave lower; r.h, on Great, as is. The arrangement deviates somewhat from the original free metre of the Genevan Psalm - Psalm 116: Trio The headings of the pieces have been changed into English.
