Additional Information
Note on technique: In order to clarify the alternate fingerings and multiphonics used in this piece, I have included this saxophone key chart (using widely accepted conventions) that explains the various fingering abbreviations I used. The fingerings written in this piece are strongly suggested in order to produce the intended timbres and facilitate technical passages. Commissioned by Jacob Armstrong.

Recently, the CBC has suffered many setbacks due to lack of government funding and internal issues that have undermined the integrity of this national institution. Static is a tribute to the CBC of my youth where there were no commercial advertisements so that the space between programs was filled with various enlightening content. Static starts with the last bars of the version of our national anthem that used to be played at the end of the broadcast day which is then followed by the off air signal reproduced by a saxophone multiphonic. The rest of the piece is a series of variations on three CBC indents that were used at various times in its history finishing with a nostalgic, almost verbatim quote of the indent used in the early 1980s. I sincerely hope that in some years, things will have returned to what they used to be and that this piece will only be a testament of a tumultuous period and not a requiem for a national institution.
