The wonderful Canadian composer Ann Southam was an inspiration to me as a young artist. I am pleased that, having finally met her at a concert a few years before her death, I had an opportunity to tell her so. When I heard about her death in late 2010 I spent a great deal of time listening to her music. I’m sure there is some influence of her music in this piece somewhere.
