“love is the every only god” sets 8 poems by e. e. cummings for unaccompanied chamber choir SATB. As the title indicates, these poems, in one way or another, are all about love. The collection includes 2 of cummings’ best known poems, “a pretty a day” and “she being brand new.” This latter poem seems on the surface to be about starting up an old fashioned car with a crank. However, the implications are obvious, and the humour is quite intentional, as is the humour in several of the other poems. Written in 2008 for Canada’s Elmer Iseler Singers, this set of choral songs won a prize in 2010 from New York’s Manhattan Choral Ensemble.
