”TOWARDS THE PINNACLE, the one-movement poem by Maya Badian is a complete sound-block with well-structured melodic designs. It presents several inner climaxes and has three sections: an orchestral introduction; the main body of the work featuring voice and orchestra; and an orchestral conclusion mirroring the introduction. With a female voice as the soloist, "Towards the Pinnacle" establishes an intimate link between music and poetry. The text is from a work by Ana Blandiana, a Romanian poetess. The sonic material of this poem is based on two six-tone complementary series summarizing the twelve-tone set. These series are applied to all aspects of the work, including the macrostructure of the form.” - Fred Popovici, “Maya Badian, Her Life and Her Music: A Privilege to Soar” (Pro Ars Publications, Ottawa, Canada, 2010)
