Interlocking No. 3 belongs to a set of piano pieces that share the characteristics of overlapping rhythmic motifs, and codependent lines. They also require at least two—and in this case, three—pianists to play. There is a visual aspect to this piece: having three players cramped in on one piano creates a certain amount of elbowing between the players! To watch them negotiate their lines, which intertwine with all the other parts, is almost like watching a dance for hands.
