Additional Information
For six pianos. A note on piano prepartaion: The performance of 'Circus Dog' requires a madest amount of intra-piano intervention. The materials used are metal bowls (of the round solid cooking variety...test for a gong-like sound) and metal knitting needles (resting on the strings parallel to the keyboard they set up a harpsichord-esque buzz). Should acoustic pianos be unavailable, an apropriate substitute to the above preparations may be sought in consultation with the composer. Commissioned by Piano Circus, U.K. Photocopy; master of score in CMC Toronto.

For a composer, the piano is so often merely a means to an end — the blank sheet on which we write. Focusing on melody seemed an apt way for me to rediscover the piano's own voice. I owe a debt of inspiration to many pianists and composers, among them Aretha Franklin, Glenn Gould, Sergio Mendes, Theolonius Monk, Nina Simone and Cecil Taylor.
'Nothing remains but a naked circus of loose sand.' - Tobias Smollett, 'The Expedition of Humphry Clinker'
'She was lovely & strange & agitating, but he did not want to turn his life into a three-ring circus.'
«Nothing remains but a naked circus of loose sand.» »
