Premiere
Windsor, Ontario Capitol Theatre 21 Feb 2004 Windsor Symphony Orchestra John Morris Russell, conductor
Last Minute Lulu is a thirty-minute work for narrator and orchestra intended for young audiences and featuring a story by Newbury Award-winning novelist Christopher Paul Curtis. The title character is a young girl who is chronically late and suffers several amusing misadventures on her way to third grade. The work employs the same instrumentation as Tchaikovsky's Peter and the Wolf; the Windsor Symphony's recording of these two works was nominated for a Juno award in 2008. The work was commissioned by the Windsor Symphony Orchestra with the assistance of the Ontario Arts Council.
