Avant Guitars & Toy Piano Composers
Punctuated Equilibrium is a phenomenon in evolutionary biology whereby an organism’s evolution will remain static for long periods of time, to be interrupted by rapid states of change and growth. Different organisms experience change at different times and may not evolve uniformly, at the same rate or at the same time as others of their own species. In this piece for four guitars, I wanted to mimic this idea in the musical evolution of the instruments, and although there is gradual change in the music over long periods of time, the way in which they interact and evolve alongside one another is very much a punctuated process.
