After teaching traditional forms in music for several years, I began to see the merit of these forms in contemporary music. Not only would one better understand the composing practice of the past but it would also force composers to fully develop a limited amount of material. After issuing a challenge to my own composition students, I decided to try it myself in this violin sonata. As a great surprise to me, I absolutely loved it. I found freedom and creativity within the designated boundaries. I enjoyed finding different answers to the built in repetition of these traditional forms. I also found my own solution to tonic and dominant statements of themes. All of the unique features which I previously thought were unsuitable and uninteresting for contemporary music became a puzzle to solve. There are three movements. I: Sonata Form II: Ternary Form III: Rondo Form
