Written for the Saxophilia Saxophone quartet in the summer of 2000. The name of course comes from 'last call' at a pub. For me this is not any pub but the ZOO night club in Inuvik, Northwest Territories where their slogan is 'party on the permafrost'. Every Friday and Saturday night at two in the morning it was closing time. This was hard work for the bouncers since the outside temperature averaged -30. Added to being thrown into the bitter cold was the threat that if you were too drunk the RCMP would be waiting to escort you to their headquarters across the street. But not just related to a pub, the idea of 'last call' can be extended to any place you have to leave but don't want to - the lag time between being told to go and actually departing.
