Additional Information
Pour piano solo. En 3 mouvements : 1. Moto Atlantico 2. fLight of the Firefly 3. Rondo à Pollock Performance Guide for f Light of the Firefly The following extended techniques (in order of first occurrence) are used in this piece: Missing Notes Whether played quietly or more loudly, the touch is so light and on the tops of the keys that many notes are randomly missed, leaving passing silences throughout. Even without the sound of the notes, there is still the sound of fingers / fingertips touching those keys. Each playing is therefore slightly different in notes played (sounding) and notes missed. Hand Sweeps Played with the hands flat and sideways, fingers pointing in. Smoothly slide / brush hands from black notes to white notes. Palms and/or heels of the hands may play some notes in between those that are written — a piacere. Tremolos With the hand unusually high above the keys, flop hand loosely and twist wrist from side to side (see also Hand Flutters). Whether quiet or loud, the touch is so light and on the tops of the keys that many notes are randomly missed, leaving passing silences throughout. Each playing is therefore different in notes played (sounding) and missed. Hand Flutters The same motion as Tremolos, molto leggiero over the tops of the keys. Hand Flutter ad lib. Some of the written notes can be approximate, though overall shape of line follows what is written. Blocked notes (Touches bloquées) Certain notes are held down (blocked / stopped) by the left hand while the right hand plays through its various figures, including the notes being held down. The result is a continual rush of pitches and passing silences / slight taps; similar to Missing Notes passages. Hand Sweeps 2 A variation on earlier Hand Sweeps. Here the hands are placed flat and sideways, fingers pointing in, but now with extremely rapid rotary motion, hand over hand, like a propeller. The palms and / or heels of the hands may play notes in between the written ones — a piacere. Commissioned by Artur Cimirro. Oeuvre déposée au CMC Québec.
