4 carol settings for organ. Ms (photocopy) ; original in CMC Toronto. Duration: 6:00
This is a collection of arrangements of three carols for organ which are frequently sung during Christmas. They are in a medium range of difficulty. Written in the late 1980s they have been digitally transcribed by organist Dr. Herman Jordaan for the first two of three volumes of chorale preludes published by SAKOV (Suid-Afrikaanse Kerkorreliste Vereniging/ South African Society of Church Organists), 2010 -2011. 1. Hark, The Herald Angels Sing: Scherzando (A stylized dance with the melody produced on a 4’ Flute stop with some imitative counterpoint in the left hand and 2-note octave motifs in the Pedal) 2. Hark, The Herald Angels Sing: Tranquillo (A quiet, meditative and pastoral-like rendering of the carol) 3. Silent Night: Siciliano (A stylized Berceuse, cast in a somewhat impressionistic style with the carol appearing in the left hand in augmented note values) 4. Joy to the World (Antioch): Fanfare (A short, festive fanfare-like arrangement) The digital copies of these works in the SAKOV volumes are unchanged, except for the headings, which are changed from Afrikaans to English. The performance indications remained in Afrikaans for which translations are provided, below.
