Healey Willan Coronation Suite, 1952 Commissioned by: CBC “A work for five-part choir and orchestra, the Coronation Suite was composed and performed specifically to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953. It consists of five movements ranging from a ceremonial opening instrumental march, to two unaccompanied choral movements (with an instrumental movement in between), and a glorious finale that combines full chorus and orchestra. “The movements and the source of their texts are 1) Prelude (instrumental); 2) Ring Out Ye Crystall Spheares (text by John Milton); 3) Interlude (instrumental); 4) Come Ready Lyre (text by James Ward); and 5) Come, Thou Beloved of Christ (text from Psalm 45, John 2, and the liturgy).”
