Nebulae are huge clouds of dust and gas that are both the residue from the explosions of stars and the birthplace of new stars. The Orion nebula is an intense, explosive cloud that lies just below the warrior's belt. The Veil nebula, one of the heaven's most delicate structures, is a 20-light-year-long stream from which hang exquisite threads. The Helix nebula is a planetary structure with circles of gases that extend in an apparently symmetrical manner around an empty centre.
Each of the movements of this composition derives its central aurage from the composer's reading of the structure of a nebula. Each movement reflects upon the cycles of creation and destruction and upon the immense spans of time that are inherent in nebulae. And, each movement struggles with the impact of their beauty upon a human viewer.
