Premiere
March 31, 2006 UBC Recital Hall Vancouver UBC Contemporary Players, Stephen Chatman, director Conductor: Stephen Chatman
FRIDAY for 8 or more performers, composed for my University of British Columbia Contemporary Players new music student ensemble, was premiered ab UBC on Friday, March 31, 2006. This inclusive "music theatre work" may be performed by any combination of instrumental/ vocal musicians and is intended for both education and concert use. The score, which is a verbally notated set/ sequence of directions or parameters of musical and dramatic improvisation, must be strictly observed. The work requires of performers not only vivid imaginations and a wide array of motions, actions, and activities but also large assortments of instruments and objects producing varied sounds, noises, and musical gestures/ styles. While maintaining serious demeanors, performers are encouraged to explore, without inhibitions and with great inspiration and freedom of expression, their own natural and, therefore, unique musical, physical and dramatic personalities and creative talents. Commissioned by: UBC Contemporary Players
