Imant Raminsh Smile, O Voluptuous, Cool-Breath’d Earth, 1986 Commissioned by: Da Camera Singers Commissioned by the Da Camera Singers on the occasion of their 25th anniversary in 1986, this work is set for SATB chorus and piano. The text is taken from Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass: “Smile, o voluptuous cool-breath’d earth! Earth of slumb’ring and liquid trees, Earth, O earth of departed sunset Earth, O earth of mountains misty top’t, Of the vitreous pour, of the full moon just tinged with blue, Earth of shine and dark mottling the tide of the river, Earth of the limpid gray of clouds, Brighter and clearer for my sake, Far-swooping elbowed, rich blossomed, apple-blossomed earth! Smile, O voluptuous cool-breath’d earth! Smile, for your lover comes!”
