The name Feeling for Snow is taken from the book Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Høeg of Denmark (first published in 1992 under the title Frøken Smillas Fornemmelse for Sne). This is one of my most 'pop' oriented compositions influenced by the cross-over styles of composers such as Steve Martland and Michael Torke, and probably one of the last pieces composed in this vein since I'm currently experimenting more with extended techniques and freer sound worlds. The piece doesn't have any relationship to the content of the book, just the title. I read it while I was in Inuvik, NWT performing a concert and it seemed to fit.
