L’Acadie is a setting of the anonymous poem “Les Acadiens, nos ancêtres.” The piece is based on the Acadian national anthem, the melody of which is the same as the hymn Ave Maris Stella. The various phrases of the anthem provide the material for the four verses of the poem. The anthem itself is heard in its entirety in the clarinet at the conclusion of the work.
