Trumpety is an exploration of various potential directions for sonic ‘communication’ between a performer/computer and on one and the audience on the other side. In addition, the piece should be also considered as a contribution to both the ongoing project of exploration of microtonal trumpet techniques and their extensions to the electroacoustic world. For this purpose I created multi-channel performance software (MaxMSP/Jitter standalone application) for live processing. It consists of various algorithms for filtering, sound synthesis, virtual multi-channel spatialisation from many sources as well as my own abstractions. The idea to dedicate a work to a microtonal trumpet combined with electronics has two aspects – one compositional and the other practical:
Compositional aspect:
o Interaction between the performer’s gestures and the algorithms for intelligent response of the interactive programme o Exploring the multidirectional sound projections of transforming its timbre, creating transitions, and phase shifts
Practical aspect:
o Enriching the repertoire for this potential and under-explored instrument
