Premiere
1994, St. James Episcopal Cathedral, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. Soloists and instruments of Incontri di Musica Sacrra Festival under the direction of Philip Morehead
The International Festival of Sacred Contemporary Music commissioned this work for St. James Cathedral, where “The Heavens Declare the Glory of God” received its world premiere in February, 1994. It is a tonal/modal setting which tries to capture the wonderfully spiritual light that surrounds Jerusalem where the composition’s idea first took shape. The poetry is from “Ladder of Angels” by Madeleine L’Engle, used with permission.
